Staff
Jamie Berglund
Community Investment Officer
(402) 575-5793
Jamie supports the foundation’s grantmaking and initiatives, helps guide impact investments, and works closely with nonprofits, businesses, and public partners to advance community priorities. She loves collaborating with the people who live and lead in the neighborhoods PKF invests in and finds energy in helping them design and carry out solutions that reflect their own vision. Jamie holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a Master of Science in Urban Studies and brings more than twenty five years of community and economic development experience, including helping launch organizations that now anchor neighborhood efforts in Omaha. On weekends she is usually creating something in her workshop, tackling home projects, enjoying yard work and gardening, or fitting in a long ride on the Wabash. She also has a talent for organizing spaces to make them feel calmer and more useful. Her favorite reminder comes from Leo Rosten: “The purpose of life is not to be happy but to matter, to be productive, to be useful, to have it make some difference that you lived at all.”
Rebecca Bode
Director of Grants and Finance
(402) 575-5792
As head of all things finance, Rebecca manages our accounting and financial reporting and oversees each financial step throughout the grantmaking process. She compares financial reporting to storytelling – and is dedicated to analyzing both our foundation’s financial story and the stories of our grantees. On the weekends, you can find Rebecca spending time in Beatrice and Norfolk with her husband, two children, and extended family.
Wendy Boyer
Executive Director
(402) 575-5786
Good leaders don’t just lead – they learn by listening to others. By listening to the passions, visions and concerns of our community leaders, Wendy leads by example. She knows the greater impact in our community starts with the efficiency of our team and works to strengthen and grow our foundation each day. A lifelong Omahan, she not only loves to build her community – she’s also a skilled sandcastle builder. Just ask her grandkids.
Christine Fortier
Executive Scheduling Assistant
402-575-5783
Christine keeps the days moving for PKF, making sure calendars click and details stay on track. She brings a decade of experience as an executive assistant and loves being the calm in the storm, smoothing schedules so others can focus on big goals instead of small snags. Off the clock she is happiest with a good book, a movie, or time outdoors with friends. Her so called “Grandma hobbies” include crochet, knitting, origami and hand lettering, and she has an uncanny knack for naming the artist and title of any Yacht Rock tune. Her favorite reminder is “Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one’s courage.”
Laura Gano
HR and Grants Manager
(402) 575-5787
When it comes to grants management, human resources, and IT, Laura loves finding solutions to make everyone’s lives a little easier. She considers herself successful if she can make her co-workers smile or laugh – no matter what type of day they’re having. When she’s not taking care of business at the foundation, she’s taking care of her two kids, and running a dog rescue.
Blake Schweers
Accounting and Grants Associate
(402) 575-5788
Always rooting for the home team, Blake is a true team player with a love for collaboration in both his professional and personal life. Blake believes there’s creativity and innovation in the world of accounting, and it’s his personal mission to work with his team to achieve the common goal of improving the greater Omaha area. When he’s not up to bat at the Peter Kiewit Foundation, you can find him on the soccer field or along a local hiking trail with friends and family.
Paul Ternes
Community Investment Officer
(402) 575-5782
Paul helps create places where Nebraska locals can live, work and play. Specifically in Omaha, he focuses on supporting arts and culture efforts. He likes to think he plays a small role in carrying on Peter Kiewit’s legacy by helping turn others’ bold dreams into reality – and is motivated by his faith and family. A certified Gallup Strengths coach by day and youth sports coach and scout leader by night, Paul’s leadership skills go a long way.
Pat Thraen
Community Investment Officer
(402) 575-5784
Pat focuses on youth development and STEM strategies and works with Nebraska nonprofit youth organizations to increase high-quality after-school programs. After 40 years with the foundation, she knows just how much of an impact the right opportunity can have on a student. When she’s not building relationships and resources with our foundation partners, Pat loves spending time outdoors – especially with her children and grandchildren.
